sarasota info & airports

If you're looking for info on how to get to Sarasota and what the heck to do when you get there, then see below for some useful information regarding area airports, as well as a link to a local tourism website.

Airports
There are several airports in the vicinity of the Sarasota area. Below you will find a link to another interactive map that includes all of the airports (and their codes for easy flight searching). Most of you will fly into either Tampa International and drive to Sarasota, or fly directly into Sarasota/Bradenton. You will generally find that flights into Tampa are going to be the cheapest option, but I've heard that there are specials on flights directly into Sarasota right now. There is an airport in St. Petersburg, but it is very rare to find affordable flights (I mention it here just in case). For those of you who might be flying into Orlando, you will also find your airport on the map.

Feel free to post comments here if you know of any good travel deals, or if you are willing/able to help give rides to and from the local airports.

Sarasota Guide
If you've been wondering how you are going to pass the time in Sarasota before and after the wedding, then follow the link below to find recommendations for local restaurants, shopping, and attractions. The Sarasota area has some of the most beautiful beaches in the state, and, even if you don't have time to spend a whole day there, you should at least take in a sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.

jason and i booked our tix on delta and the roundtrip total for each person came to $249. it was some sort of special between lga and tpa. there are also direct flights to sarasota from newark via continental air which i've taken, not sure how much they are though.

also, we'll be flying in to tpa wednesday morning around 10/11 and driving north to dade city. then picking up noa on friday morning from tpa on the way to sarasota (and possibly joey and legna) and then dropping noa off on sunday and then going to dade city and then getting ourselves there on monday.

that may be too much info but the point is that i'm renting a big enough car to help transport people if those options fit into any one else's plans. :)

I , too, hope this is not too much info, but here is mine and Jesse's itinerary.

Friday, October 31, 2008
Arrive TPA: 3:40 PM
Sunday, November 2, 2008
Depart TPA: 6:40 AM

We have a car rental reserved, but if it works, would be willing to carpool. We will be staying at the Spring Hill Suites, since it is so close to the place of the holy matrimony.

Also, we are not telling our Dade City/San An friends and family that we are in town because we are cutting it close. Please don't think we are jerks. We may drive up to Dade City Saturday night *if* there is time.

mom booked the tix. i'm trying to convince jed to wear his halloween costume on the areoplane cause we are flying down on halloween. we are also staying at some quality comfort sleep crap inn or something like that. i told mom we don't give 2 shits as long as we are there to witness kyle 'making an honest woman of her'
